On the island of Djurgården, home to many of Stockholm's most famous attractions: Skansen, the Vasa, Cirkus, there's one place that's a real winner, and it takes it all.
ABBA: The Museum is a collection of the Swedish pop band's history - both musical and personal - and a collection of records, awards and artifacts from the ABBA-verse and exhibitions that both celebrate the band whilst challenging you on your knowledge of their songs! Ever wanted to know what it's like to record in ABBA's studio? Well, the museum offers you that chance. Maybe you're more interested in giving a live performance? ABBA: the museum has got you covered there, too - you can rock out on stage (in front of all the other guests) with a holographic ABBA to support you, and some stylish costumes to boot!
If your timing is good, you might even come across a piano playing itself. It does this, from time-to-time, and it's one of the museum's more unique exhibits. This ghostly piano is actually linked to Benny Andersson's personal piano at his home, and plays when he does, meaning some ABBA fans will even get a live(ish) concert when they visit.
ABBA: The museum was based on a similar concept, The Beatles museum in Liverpool, England. It was originally planned to be housed in an old customs building with the grand opening predicted to come in 2008 but, due to financial issues, the museum never went ahead. The original building now houses Stockholm's museum of photography, Fotografiska, instead. New plans were drawn up almost immediately and the ABBA exhibition finally found it's new home in Djurgården in 2012, where it has been entertaining fans ever since.
So if you're a fan, and your keen to see the full life stories of the members of the world-famous Swedish pop band, complete with all the shiny, sequined costumes, instruments, notes and diaries from their tours, movie props (Mamma Mia!) and more, ABBA: The museum is an unmissable stop on your next Stockholm adventure!
